THE 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP – SOUTH AFRICA
UPDATE:
The long awaited African inauguration of the biggest show on earth, the FIFA 2010 World Cup, will be contested by the international giants of football at ten venues spread across the “Rainbow Nation”.
Nine South African cities will open their hearts and minds to an anticipated armada of soccer fans, with the economic capital of the country, Egoli “City of Gold”, best known as Johannesburg, hosting both the opening and closing battles for world football supremacy at two different venues. The sheer distance between stadiums arguably warrants a dedicated travel itinerary to prevent international and local visitors missing even a second of an event that only happens every four years. Just as the recently closing Vancouver winter Olympic games and the upcoming Sochi 2014 games in Russia, only happens every four years and is a massive event.
Helicopter transfers transporting guests from the national airports or their luxury accommodation directly to the game, or as near as possible to the stadium, is already becoming a popular transport alternative for fans intent on following their chosen teams around this stunning country, South Africa.
JOHANNESBURG
Johannesburg, the economic and transport hub of South Africa, has been selected to host two of the most important encounters at two distinct venues:
Soccer City
Soccer City, also known as the FNB Stadium, has undergone an extensive face lift with the extension of the upper tier all around the stadium is to increase seating to 94 500 spectators. With new changing rooms, floodlights and a state-of-the-art roof to keep spectators dry should it rain are only a few of additions to a design based on the traditional African pot. The stadium is located 8kms from the central business district and is close to Gold Reef City and the NASREC National Exhibition Center.
Ellis Park
Ellis Park, also close to the city center, is in the process of a massive two billion Rand upgrade that will include new upper tiers behind each goal. The stadium’s seating capacity is expected to be increased to about 70 000 in anticipation of a semi-final match.
Ellis Park was originally built in 1928 as a rugby union stadium. In 1982 it was demolished and rebuilt, again exclusively for rugby. A Johannesburg city councilor, JD Ellis, who approved the use of the land for a stadium, setting aside a full 13 acres and thus getting its name Ellis Park.
DURBAN
The Moses Mabhida Stadium
The Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is under construction but is set to host a thrilling semi-final match. The design is dominated completely by the 106m high center arch that will be linked to the ground by a cable car, allowing visitors sweeping views of the KZN coastline. Dedicated buses and trains to the new Kings Park Railway station, will ferry guests to and from this stunning new Stadium.
CAPE TOWN
Green Point Stadium
Without doubt, the newly constructed Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, is the flagship stadium. Situated on the Green Point common between Table Bay and Table Mountain, the stadium is expected to host 9 matches, including a quarter and semifinal match. Defined by a sweeping silhouette, the stadium was designed so as not to detract from Table Mountain, the icon of Africa, but rather to enhance it. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 68 000 once complete.
BLOEMFONTEIN
Free State Stadium
The Free State Stadium is home to some of the country’s most fanatical group of supporters, and is likely to be the center of attraction during the 2010 World Cup. In 2009 the stadium was given a plush new look for the Confederations Cup . It hosted the memorable semifinal clash between Spain and USA where USA secured one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by sending the European champions home in front of a capacity crowd. The stadium was upgraded from 38,000 to 45,000 seats during the refurbishments. The stadium has hosted numerous major football and rugby matches, and Bloemfontein’s residents are renowned for their passion for sport.
NELSPRUIT
Mbombela Stadium
The stadium is located in the city of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga, with a seating capacity of 46,000. It is situated approximately 7 kilometers from the city center and 12 kilometers from the Kruger-Mpumalanga Airport. The stadium is also in close proximity to various game parks, giving spectators the opportunity to see the wildlife during non-game days.
POLOKWANE
Peter Mokaba Stadium
The design of the mostly concrete structure was inspired by the local iconic Baobab tree, with steel structures supporting the roof plane gathered together at each corner, and supported by giant ‘trunk’ structure which accommodates vertical circulation ramps and service cores. The stadium was built next to the old Stadium in Polokwane in the Limpopo Province. The newly built Peter Mokaba stadium is situated approximately five kilometers from the city center, with a seating capacity of 45,000.
PORT ELIZABETH
Nelson Mandela Stadium
The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will host the third place game, and a quarter final amid a total of eight matches during the 2010 World Cup. The stadium has an eye catching roof structure and a spectacular view overlooking the North End Lake. Before the construction of this multi purpose stadium, all international football matches were played at the Eastern Province rugby stadium. The playing field is natural grass while the surrounding area is to be artificial grass.
PRETORIA
Loftus Versfeld Stadium
Loftus Versfeld Stadium, situated in Pretoria, is one of the oldest stadiums in SA. Since 1903, the stadium has been used for major sporting events and the first concrete structure, which had a capacity of only 2000 spectators, was built by the City Council of Pretoria in 1923. Loftus Versfeld is in the heart of Pretoria and now has a seating capacity of 50,000. It has hosted many important matches including the 1995 Rugby World Cup and 1996 CAF African Cup of Nations. South Africa’s Bafana Bafana achieved its first ever victory over a European side at Loftus Versfeld when they beat Sweden by one goal to nil in 1999.
RUSTENBERG
Royal Bafokeng Stadium
The Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace is one of the stadiums to host matches during 2010 World Cup, despite Rustenburg not having its own team . The stadium is named after the Bafokeng people who live in the area. Once complete, the stadium will have a seating capacity of 42 000. The stadium is twenty five minute drive to Sun City and half an hour to the Pilansberg mountains. It is twelve kms from the Rustenburg CBD.

Traditional Kalahari Guided Bushman 4×4 Vehicle Tours (10 & 6 Day)
GhamaGhoe San Tours Cc (GGST) herewith wish to take the opportunity to offer all tour operators, friends and viewers a “once in a lifetime and privileged” opportunity, now open and available to South Africans and Foreigners, 4×4 enthusiasts, ecologists, botanists, bird watchers and nature lovers in search of the unknown hidden jewels to be discovered and viewed in “one of the world’s last pristine natural wildernesses areas” – The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and neighboring Southern Kalahari.
Based on the fact that you will enter a “sacred and protected” area, the management, protection and control of the restoration and convalescing of the sensitive eco system is an absolute requirement for the benefit and survival of all living organisms, bird and plant life alike, in the park. This makes the tour even more unique!
Due to the adverse effect of to many vehicles on the off road tracks and the tendency to leave the dunes prone to wind erosion, the number of tours allowed into this area is strictly controlled. The habitat is constantly monitored by the authorities. GGST is constantly informed by KTP-SAN Parks of any changes regarding an approved permit for a confirmed booking of a scheduled tour group!
Therefore, taken the above into consideration, this is a one time opportunity, offered only to a few privileged persons driving their 4 x4 vehicles per year!
“Men who know” will go overboard and to all ends to experience such a 4×4 tour in order to achieve the utopia thereof!
Due to the location of the operational area of GGST, 90% of the tours as offered are in the vicinity (20 – 200km as the crow flies) ranging from Andriesvale to the KTP-SANParks, part of the Central Kalahari and eventually ending at the Augrabies Falls National Park.( time permitted – optional!)
The “sacred and protected” area is entered after travelling 25km from Twee Rivieren gate (northwards to Mata- Mata rest camp) the tour will leave the main road and then travel ±20 km in a north western direction through the now known S-Zone area of 25.000 ha in the park. The tour will be guided by a well informed and travelled tour leader and his experienced and seasoned Khomani San Boesman trackers. (The S-Zone area is the tracker guide’s ancestral hinterland, now accessible after the land restitution claim – “Ae! Hai Kalahari Heritage Park Agreement – 31 August 2001”)
The Kgalagadi, TWICE the size of the Kruger National Park, is one of the best venues worldwide for viewing large and small cats. Various raptors such as the Pale Chanting Goshawk, the gracious Secretary bird and Martial Eagles are regular sightings.
The notorious Kalahari Lions and Leopards are plentiful and generally seen! In addition a rich variety of other mammals such Oryx / Gemsbok (The “Prince” of the Park), Springbok and Meerkat.
This is a privileged experience, camping in the untamed wilderness, sit and relax around a camp fire, taking in the awesomeness of the galaxy that is so clear and close that you feel and get the impression that the stars are touching the ground!. Listen and admire the howling of jackals, the geckos calling their mates and the clamor of the other smaller night animals, perhaps the roar of a lion, a memory that you to be cherished.
Detailed information is on our website: http://www.komanisan.com, GGST takes the liberty to request all tour operators, friends and viewers forward the information herein contained and on the website to your family, friends interested in 4 x4 Vehcile tours of a difference for their perusal and notice.

Great website! Love the content you have on here. Please keep up the good work and I will be sure to visit quite often. Thanks much!
Fine blog. I got a lot of good data. I’ve been keeping an eye on this technology for awhile. It’s intriguing how it keeps shifting, yet some of the core factors stay the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their latest acquisition in the arena?
Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
Great article. There’s a lot of good data here, though I did want to let you know something – I am running Fedora with the current beta of Firefox, and the design of your blog is kind of bizarre for me. I can read the articles, but the navigation doesn’t function so well.
I am currently reading it on my Blackberry and will scan it once I get home. I love your site and marketing strategy. Check out my website if you get a chance.
I think he would be fighting comparable fighters in the UFC…
You article most definitely was one of the best points of my Saturday. I was on MSN searching for something totally unrelated when the blog caught my attention. I’m glad I took the time to read your article! Feel free to check out my blog at The Tweet Tank Review!
Hey there I appreciate your story
